What should disciplinary and grievance procedures include?
Procedures should explain how concerns are raised, investigated, heard, decided and appealed, consistently with the Acas Code.
The procedures should explain who an employee should contact, how concerns will be put in writing and investigated, when a formal meeting will take place, the right to be accompanied where it applies, how a decision will be communicated and how to appeal.
Employers should act promptly, investigate the facts, give the employee a fair opportunity to respond and use an impartial appeal wherever possible. Employment tribunals can adjust awards where there has been an unreasonable failure to follow the Acas Code.
This is general information, not legal advice. Follow the current Acas Code and adapt the process to the facts of the case.
