leave-and-absence

What is the statutory holiday entitlement in the UK?

Most UK workers are entitled to 5.6 weeks of paid holiday each leave year, calculated according to their working pattern.

Most UK workers are entitled to 5.6 weeks of paid holiday each leave year. For someone working five days a week, that is usually 28 days. An employer can include bank holidays within the 5.6-week entitlement.

Part-time and irregular-hours workers are also entitled to paid holiday, but the calculation depends on their working pattern and when their leave year began. The contract or handbook should explain the leave year, how to request time off and whether bank holidays form part of the allowance.

This is general information, not legal advice. Check the current rules for the worker's circumstances before issuing terms.
