When must an employer provide a written statement of employment particulars?

The principal written statement must normally be given on or before the employee or worker's first day, with certain wider information due within two months.

An employer must normally provide the principal written statement on or before the first day of work. It covers core information such as pay, hours, holiday, workplace, job title and notice. Certain additional information can be supplied in instalments, but must be provided no later than two months after employment starts.

The statutory written statement is not, by itself, the whole employment contract. Contractual terms can also arise from other written documents, verbal agreements, conduct and terms implied by law.

This is general information, not legal advice. Review the required particulars and the worker's status before issuing a document.
