Day-to-day operating brief
What Sales Trader work looks like in practice
A Sales Trader receives client interest and executes or arranges transactions within approved instruments, venues and limits. Terms should define client types, order handling, pricing, best-execution processes, recorded communications, market colour, allocations, errors, conflicts, inside information, personal dealing, risk limits, remuneration and the boundary between execution service, recommendations and regulated advice. Order handling should preserve priority, material client conditions and any reason execution differed from the instruction. Market colour must distinguish observable activity from opinion and avoid revealing another client's interest. Where voice, chat and electronic records disagree, the trader should escalate promptly rather than selecting the version that produces the preferred booking. Client limits, settlement capability and relevant restrictions should be confirmed before execution where the service requires them. A partial fill, rejection or material delay needs prompt accurate communication. Performance review should not incentivise unnecessary turnover, selective allocation or conduct that disadvantages less profitable clients.
