Day-to-day operating brief
What Transfer Driver (Ambulance) work looks like in practice
A Funeral Transfer Driver collects deceased people from homes, hospitals, care settings or other mortuaries using a private ambulance or transfer vehicle. Terms should cover on-call response, identity confirmation, property, bariatric or difficult access, equipment, two-person lifts, vehicle security, infection precautions, cleaning and admission handover. Speed of response must not replace verification or safe movement, and the driver should never accept an uncertain identity or leave the deceased unattended in an insecure vehicle. A private residence collection may require advance assessment of stairs, pets, lighting and the route to the vehicle while preserving family privacy. If personal effects accompany the deceased, seals and item descriptions should be checked at both collection and admission rather than reconstructed later. Vehicle location should avoid unnecessary public exposure during loading.
Individually written and reviewed against the maintained role record.
