Day-to-day operating brief
What Back End Developer work looks like in practice
A Back-End Developer builds APIs, business logic, integrations and data-access services that support customer-facing or internal products. Terms should identify languages, repositories, environments, database access, code review, testing, secrets, documentation, deployment and on-call expectations. The role needs strong IP and confidentiality wording because source code, architecture and production data remain valuable even when work is remote. Integration contracts should document authentication, error behaviour, rate limits and ownership of retries. A service can appear healthy while repeatedly duplicating or losing downstream work, so operational acceptance needs more than a successful HTTP response. API retirement needs consumer inventory, notice and observed migration rather than a date alone. Background jobs, partner integrations and rarely used administrative clients may remain invisible during ordinary interactive testing.
