Day-to-day operating brief
What Information Governance Officer (FOI/EIR) work looks like in practice
An Information Governance Officer coordinates requests under freedom of information and environmental information regimes and may support records and privacy governance. Terms should cover request logging, clarification, searches, business liaison, exemptions, public-interest considerations, redaction, third-party consultation, deadlines, reviews and publication schemes. The officer should not narrow a search to produce a convenient answer, withhold material without an evidenced basis or disclose personal data merely because a document is otherwise releasable. Deadline calculations should preserve pauses, clarification dates and extensions with their stated basis. Search evidence should identify mailboxes, systems, date ranges and staff consulted, helping an internal reviewer understand whether the response was reasonable without requiring the organisation to repeat the entire exercise from memory.
Individually written and reviewed against the maintained role record.
