Day-to-day operating brief
What Library Driver (Mobile service) work looks like in practice
A Mobile Library Driver operates a specialist vehicle between scheduled community stops and may support set-up and customer service. Terms should cover licence category, vehicle size, route planning, parking, levelling, steps or lifts, generators, stock restraint, weather, breakdowns, lone working and cash. Unlike home delivery, the role manages a public service space on a vehicle and must not open at an unsafe roadside location. Route plans should include vehicle height, weight, turning space and seasonal road restrictions rather than rely on car navigation. Before movement, internal doors, stools, computers and returned-stock trolleys need positive restraint, while any overloaded shelf or unsecured display should be corrected before the parking brake is released. Vehicle checks should cover secure shelving, tail lift or step equipment and any defect affecting public access. At each stop, stock movements and borrower transactions need synchronising so temporary connectivity loss does not create duplicate loans.
