What Collections Assistant (Registration) work looks like in practice
A Collections Registration Assistant supports accessions, loans, object movements, insurance and collection records. Terms should cover title and donor documents, object numbers, locations, condition reports, packing, couriers, indemnity, customs, photography and databases. The assistant should not assign permanent numbers before acceptance, move objects without updating location control or describe physical possession as proof of legal ownership. Accession files should distinguish legal title, copyright, data rights and physical custody because each may rest with a different party. Object moves into photography, conservation or display require destination and responsible person, while temporary staging should never become an undocumented permanent location after the project closes. Courier paperwork should be reconciled with crate contents and condition documentation at arrival and departure. A discrepancy in an object number, seal or lender instruction needs resolution before the movement is closed in the register. Packing photographs should show layer order and support placement clearly enough for the receiving venue to reverse the process safely.
Individually written and reviewed against the maintained role record.
