What Mail Centre Sorter (Distribution) work looks like in practice
A Mail Centre Sorter separates letters, packets and containers into destination or service streams within a distribution hub. Terms should cover conveyor work, destination labels, cages, mis-sorts, damaged items, manual handling, machinery stops, restricted mail and shift targets. The sorter should not reach into moving equipment, relabel uncertain containers from memory or move an unscanned cage simply to clear a congested floor. Container closure should confirm the destination placard, electronic routing record and physical contents stream before dispatch. When throughput backs up, overflow positions need labelled ownership and release order so cages are not moved into fire routes or sent under the wrong service merely to clear floor space. Trailer or vehicle loading records should link each closed container to its dispatch movement. A broken seal after closure requires re-verification, not replacement without an exception note.
