Day-to-day operating brief
What Data Analyst (Finance) work looks like in practice
A Financial Data Analyst transforms transaction, customer, product or risk data into operational and management insight. The contract should define datasets, systems, access levels, quality checks, metrics, code and models, dashboards, version control, privacy, financial-crime information, stakeholder requests and the boundary between presenting analysis and making regulated, credit or investment decisions. A useful analytical record preserves the population, time period, transformations and exceptions behind a published result. Access to raw transactions should not become permanent merely because it was once convenient. When analysis informs customer treatment or risk decisions, monitoring should test for unexpected groups, drift and operational feedback after implementation. Dashboard publication needs an owner, refresh frequency, access group and method for notifying users when a material defect is found. Analysts should not keep local uncontrolled extracts simply to reproduce old reporting; governed sources and code should enable continuity without unnecessary duplicate customer data.
