Day-to-day operating brief
What Pensions Consultant work looks like in practice
A pensions consultant analyses scheme or workplace-pension issues, prepares advice and coordinates trustees, employers, administrators and professional specialists. The contract should identify whether the role gives regulated advice, actuarial input or implementation support and should not imply permissions the employee does not hold. Pensions work may involve benefit design, governance, member communication, funding or investment interfaces, and the assigned speciality should be explicit. Scheme rules and governing documents take precedence over a convenient summary. Where actuarial, legal, investment or regulated financial advice is needed, the consultant should coordinate the correct specialist rather than extending a general consultancy role beyond competence.
