Day-to-day operating brief
What Care Home Activities Assistant (Older adults) work looks like in practice
A Care Home Activities Assistant supports social, sensory, creative and movement opportunities for older residents, including people living with dementia. Terms should cover individual interests, communication, care-plan information, mobility, fatigue, meaningful occupation, group and room-based activity, visitors, trips, petty cash, photographs, safeguarding, infection controls and recording without making clinical or care decisions. Activities in a care home are part of daily quality of life, not a performance target based simply on attendance. The assistant may offer individual sensory engagement, small groups, celebrations and gentle movement while respecting care plans, fatigue, capacity, distress and a resident's choice not to join. Terms should cover communication with care staff, handling personal histories, infection precautions, safe seating, food or craft allergens, visitors and residents leaving the unit. Recording should capture meaningful participation and concerns without turning subjective enjoyment into a fabricated clinical outcome.
Individually written and reviewed against the maintained role record.
