Day-to-day operating brief
What Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst work looks like in practice
A BI Analyst transforms operational data into dashboards and recurring reports used for commercial and management decisions. Unlike broad exploratory analysis, the role emphasises stable definitions, refreshes, access permissions and reconciliation across source systems. Terms should identify reporting platforms, datasets, metric owners, confidential audiences, release controls, documentation and support responsibilities. Dashboard release notes should identify definition, filter and source changes that alter historical comparisons. Users need to know whether a trend reflects the business or a revised calculation, especially where management incentives depend on the measure. Audience testing should confirm that drill-through, exports and scheduled email preserve row-level restrictions. A summary dashboard can appear correctly restricted while an underlying detail route exposes another region or customer. Certified reports need visible owners and review dates so users can distinguish governed management information from personal exploratory copies that happen to look authoritative.
Individually written and reviewed against the maintained role record.
