What Trade Mark Paralegal work looks like in practice
A Trade Mark Paralegal supports clearance, applications, prosecution, renewals, recordals and disputes under attorney supervision. Terms should cover marks, goods and services, territories, searches, filing forms, priority, office actions, oppositions, watch notices, agents, costs and docketing. The paralegal should not decide registrability independently, broaden a specification without approval or mark a deadline complete before an official receipt or verified submission is available. Portfolio records should distinguish word, figurative and series marks and retain the exact representation approved for each filing. Classification updates need client and attorney review because selecting a convenient pre-approved term may omit the actual commercial activity or create protection the client did not intend to pursue. Priority claims require certified evidence, matching ownership and calendar control across every designated territory. Assignment recordals, address changes and licences should never be assumed to update automatically between separate registries. Opposition cooling-off periods, evidence rounds, coexistence discussions, watching deadlines and proof-of-use documents each need independent docket entries with an accountable attorney. Renewal instructions should identify marks intentionally allowed to lapse, not merely those absent from a payment spreadsheet.
Individually written and reviewed against the maintained role record.
