Day-to-day operating brief
What Environmental Officer work looks like in practice
A Manufacturing Environmental Officer supports management of emissions, waste, water, energy and environmental permits or commitments. Terms should define sites, monitoring, sampling interfaces, registers, contractor waste records, incident response, audits, training, objectives and reporting. The officer may advise and coordinate but should not sign regulatory submissions or certify specialist results without delegated authority and competence. Environmental control on a factory site may involve solvent use, combustion plant, process effluent, cooling systems, packaging waste and storage of oils or chemicals. The officer should maintain an obligations calendar and verify that evidence is complete, including contractor documentation and corrective actions. Terms may cover spill drills, drainage plans, nuisance complaints and review of new equipment or substances before introduction. Monitoring trends should be communicated early enough for operational response, with any external statement or regulator contact made through authorised governance. Complaints about odour, noise or dust should be time-stamped against plant conditions and weather, preserving useful evidence without prematurely accepting or dismissing the alleged source.
Individually written and reviewed against the maintained role record.
