Day-to-day operating brief
What Despatch Clerk work looks like in practice
A Despatch Clerk prepares and records outbound consignments after picking and packing. Terms should cover order status, carrier booking, service level, labels, manifests, export or dangerous-goods interfaces, trailer loading status, cut-offs, proof of collection and system completion. The clerk should not release held orders, duplicate labels casually or confirm departure before carrier handover. Outbound release should reconcile order, parcel or pallet count, carrier, route and loading status. The clerk may need to manage several carrier portals and should keep credentials, labels and manifests tied to the correct account. Terms can cover late trailers, split shipments, cancelled labels, high-value handover and collection refusal. When systems fail, any manual dispatch record should later be reconciled without generating duplicate shipment or tracking events. Where a shipment departs in multiple vehicles, each manifest and proof record should identify its own physical quantity so remaining goods are not incorrectly closed as collected.
