Day-to-day operating brief
What Driver's Mate work looks like in practice
A Driver's Mate assists with loading, route tasks and delivery of goods, often including heavy or bulky items. Terms should cover vehicle travel, start times, manual handling equipment, stairs, two-person lifts, assembly or installation boundaries, customer property, proof of delivery, packaging removal, returns and failed access. The mate should not direct unsafe vehicle movement unless trained or undertake technical installation beyond competence. Two-person delivery needs agreed commands for lifting, stopping and setting goods down, especially on stairs or uneven ground. The mate may protect floors and doorways, unpack items and remove packaging within the purchased service. Employers should define footwear, handling aids, customer requests to move existing furniture and the response when access differs from booking information. Personal contact with recipients should remain professional, with complaints and property concerns referred through the delivery process.
Individually written and reviewed against the maintained role record.
