Day-to-day operating brief
What Obesity Liaison Officer (Tier 2/3) work looks like in practice
A Weight Management Liaison Officer coordinates access between community, primary care and specialist services across tiered pathways. Terms should define eligibility information, referrals, waiting lists, participant contact, provider relationships, data sharing, non-attendance, accessibility, service reporting, weight-stigma safeguards, complaints and the boundary between administrative coordination, behaviour support and clinical assessment or treatment decisions. Tier 2 and Tier 3 pathways can involve different eligibility, multidisciplinary input and clinical governance. The liaison officer may coordinate referrals, appointments, outcome data and communication among weight-management, primary-care and specialist teams without personally making clinical decisions. Terms should define the actual service tier, consent for information exchange, respectful language, accessibility and escalation of medication, eating-disorder, mental-health or safeguarding concerns. Employers should also specify waiting-list communication, interpreter provision, failed contact, onward referral and how programme metrics are reported without stigmatising participants or overstating individual results. The post may also reconcile duplicate referrals, record reasons for non-entry and coordinate transition between tiers without presenting an administrative threshold as an individual clinical judgement.
Individually written and reviewed against the maintained role record.
