Day-to-day operating brief
What Office Clerk work looks like in practice
An Office Clerk completes varied routine administration such as processing forms, updating records, copying documents, handling post and supporting basic office transactions. The role is broader but usually less autonomous than an office manager, with work allocated under established procedures. Terms should define the team, office or hybrid location, systems, hours, data access, cash or payment exposure, filing, stock, service contact, quality checks and escalation of incomplete or contradictory instructions. Routine processing should use current forms and reference data, with withdrawn versions removed from shared folders and print points. Mail, copying and record updates can expose the clerk to more information than the task requires, so curiosity access and informal sharing remain prohibited. Transaction batches need counts, totals and unresolved items. When instructions conflict, the clerk should retain both sources and obtain an authorised resolution instead of overwriting evidence of the discrepancy.
Individually written and reviewed against the maintained role record.
