Day-to-day operating brief
What Office Manager work looks like in practice
An Office Manager oversees the daily administrative operation of a workplace, coordinating reception, supplies, records, meetings, visitors and support staff. This Admin & Support role centres on office continuity and team workflow; it is distinct from strategic facilities ownership and from a professional-services practice manager's client or matter responsibilities. Terms should define the office, attendance, direct reports, supplier and budget limits, keys, data, purchases, events, health and safety coordination, emergencies and cover arrangements. Office continuity plans should cover people, premises access, communications, critical supplies and alternative working, not only emergency contact numbers. Supplier records need service scope, renewal date, cost owner and unresolved problems so a convenient incumbent is not renewed without review. Staff supervision should include workload and cover rather than monitoring presence alone. Sensitive visitors, employee meetings and deliveries require discreet coordination that protects confidentiality without obstructing legitimate access.
Individually written and reviewed against the maintained role record.
