Day-to-day operating brief
What Sports Performance Coach (Specific sport) work looks like in practice
A Sports Performance Coach develops physical or technical performance for athletes in a defined sport and level. Terms should identify teams, season, testing, programme design, training-load data, competition support, facilities, technology, travel, camps, athlete welfare, youth safeguarding, medical and coaching interfaces, selection boundaries, research and confidentiality around performance information. A sport-specific performance coach translates technical and tactical objectives into planned practice for a defined squad or athlete group. The agreement should name the sport, level, season and competition duties, because authority differs between academy, community and elite settings. It can cover selection input, match analysis, athlete data, travel, camps, video, safeguarding and coordination with medical and strength staff. The coach should not override return-to-play restrictions or promise selection, and their ownership or use of drills, reports and footage needs clear employment and confidentiality terms. Match-day communication, opposition scouting and selection discussions should remain confidential, with access to athlete monitoring limited to a legitimate coaching purpose and the agreed performance team.
