Day-to-day operating brief
What Receptionist (Chapel) work looks like in practice
A Funeral Chapel Receptionist welcomes families, manages calls and appointments, and coordinates access to arrangement rooms or chapels of rest. Terms should address identity checks, visitor logs, viewing readiness, privacy, flowers and deliveries, accessibility, keys, lone working, distress, complaints and emergency contact. The receptionist supports the visit but should not confirm identity, amend funeral arrangements, provide clinical explanations or allow unscheduled access without the authorised process. Room scheduling should include preparation and private departure time between appointments rather than placing families back to back. Reception notes should record practical access needs without adding subjective descriptions of grief, behaviour or family relationships that are unnecessary for the visit. Screens should be positioned away from waiting-area sightlines.
Individually written and reviewed against the maintained role record.
