Day-to-day operating brief
What Packing Operative work looks like in practice
A Packing Operative prepares manufactured goods for storage or dispatch by selecting packaging, counting units, applying labels, sealing, coding and building pallets. Terms should define line, product, allergen or hygiene controls where relevant, label reconciliation, batch traceability, weight checks, damaged goods, manual handling and changeovers. Speed must not override label accuracy, seal integrity or segregation of rejected packs. Different customers and markets may require distinct cartons, language labels, barcodes or pallet patterns even when the product looks identical. The operative should complete line clearance and verify issued materials at every changeover. Terms can cover knives, strapping, shrink wrapping, pallet trucks and protection of fragile or clean product. If a code becomes unreadable or a count is uncertain, affected packs need a defined containment boundary rather than being mixed with accepted output to meet dispatch time.
