Day-to-day operating brief
What Press Brake Setter work looks like in practice
A Press Brake Setter prepares machines to bend sheet metal by selecting tooling, loading programs, establishing bend sequence and checking first-off parts. Terms should identify machines, tonnage, materials, drawings, tooling limits, guards, handling aids, program authority, in-process checks and changeover records. Schedule pressure must not justify incorrect tooling, reaching into danger zones or running before setup approval. Bend outcome depends on material grade, thickness, grain direction, tooling radius and springback, so a previous program is not proof that a new batch will conform. The setter may calculate allowances, organise a safe trial and make controlled compensation before first-off approval. Employers should define handling of large sheets, support arms, back-gauge risks and storage of punches and dies. Changeover records should identify tooling and program versions so later defects can be traced to the actual setup used.
