Day-to-day operating brief
What Messenger work looks like in practice
A Messenger carries documents, small items or internal post between offices, courts, clients or nearby sites, often where speed and direct custody matter. Unlike a parcel courier route, the role may focus on confidential, urgent or personally handed material for one organisation. Terms should define territory, walking, cycling or vehicle arrangements, schedules, identification, sealed items, recipient verification, proof of delivery, expenses, failed handovers, weather and loss reporting. Collection should confirm the number, seal condition, destination and urgency of each item before departure. Route efficiency must not override custody rules or safe travel. Where buildings impose screening or reception delays, the messenger records the actual handover point and any named recipient restriction. Proof images should never expose document contents. A failed delivery remains the messenger's controlled item until it is returned or transferred through the authorised chain.
