What Creative Director (Design) work looks like in practice
An Advertising Creative Director leads the overall creative vision across accounts, developing teams, reviewing concepts and presenting major work to clients. The role spans copy, design, film and production and may decide which routes advance, while commercial, legal and client approvals remain distinct. Terms should define accounts, people authority, pitch confidentiality, production and supplier limits, claims, cultural and accessibility review, talent, awards, public speaking, portfolio use and conflicts. Creative review should distinguish mandatory corrections, strategic concerns and subjective suggestions so teams understand what must change. Pitch decisions require realistic production feasibility and ownership of any speculative partner or talent. The director should create room for dissent where cultural, accessibility or rights concerns emerge. Workload oversight must consider repeated late client changes and recovery time, not celebrate unsustainable hours as evidence of creative commitment.
