Day-to-day operating brief
What Yoga Instructor (Hatha/Vinyasa) work looks like in practice
A Hatha and Vinyasa Yoga Instructor leads posture, breathing and relaxation classes for varied participants. Terms should define style and level, sequence planning, studio and online delivery, props, mats and cleaning, music, capacity, verbal and physical adjustments, consent, pregnancy or health adaptations, cultural respect, substitute cover, recordings, first aid and avoidance of unsupported therapeutic or medical claims. Hatha and vinyasa classes can differ substantially in pace, sequencing and physical demand. The instructor should describe the class honestly, use consent-led verbal or hands-on guidance and offer props or alternatives without diagnosing a participant's condition. Contract terms may cover heated or non-heated venues, pregnancy competence, inversions, music, mats, retreats, online teaching and teacher-training boundaries. Employers should state how pain, dizziness or emotional distress is handled and ensure philosophical or spiritual elements are presented respectfully rather than imposed as medical fact or required belief. Retreats or workshops create additional questions about accommodation, meals, travel, participant contact outside class and cancellation, each of which should be expressly assigned rather than assumed from weekly teaching duties.
