What Relaxer Specialist (Smoothing) work looks like in practice
A Relaxer and Smoothing Specialist performs authorised chemical services that reduce curl or alter texture. Retouch boundaries, previous products, colour history, scalp condition, overlap and heat all affect risk. Terms should identify approved relaxer or smoothing systems, consultation and strand checks, base protection, application sequence, timing, neutralising, ventilation, PPE, records and maintenance advice. Commercial pressure must not encourage application over irritated scalp or incompatible chemistry. Retouch documentation should map processed and new-growth zones before application. This is especially valuable where several stylists may see the client, because elapsed time alone does not reveal overlap, breakage or a product applied elsewhere. Smoothing systems marketed under similar names may use different chemistry and heat requirements. Product identity and training must be confirmed from the actual system rather than inferred from the requested finish.
