A realistic working scenario

In production, workshop or field locations the NDT Technician inspects components using approved NDT methods, records inspection and test outcomes in the production or maintenance system, isolates assets when defects or unsafe equipment are found, completes shift handovers and raises quality or safety escalations to the production or operations manager and quality team.

Outputs to agree

• Completed NDT inspection reports entered into the production or maintenance system for each inspected asset.
• Isolation and defect tags applied to unsafe parts and recorded in equipment inspection records.
• Handover note at shift end including outstanding defects, open isolations and in-progress tests.
• Defect close-out updates and corrective action entries in the quality system after repair verification.

Records and evidence

• Equipment inspection records in the production or maintenance system for each tested asset.
• NDT test results and calibration check entries tied to the inspected component.
• Isolation and defect tag log documenting asset status and who authorised isolation.
• Shift handover and outstanding actions register for production continuity.
• Quality non-conformance or corrective action records for defects raised.
• Work records.

Reporting relationship

Typically reports to Line Manager or Department Manager. Confirm the employer's actual reporting structure in the builder.

Authority and escalation

• The NDT Technician may perform inspections, apply isolations and raise defect records. Approval of permanent repairs, release to production after repair, or deviation from test methods must be referred to the production or operations manager and quality. Use systems, equipment and customer data only for authorised NDT Technician work; report suspected data loss or misuse immediately to the production or operations manager.
• Obtain approval before committing expenditure, changing contractual commitments or making regulated or staffing decisions outside the assigned role.
