Day-to-day operating brief
What Test Technician work looks like in practice
A Test Technician verifies components or assemblies using approved benches, rigs, software and procedures. The contract should identify electrical, mechanical or functional test scope, equipment checks, fixtures, limits, scripts, serials, data storage, failures, retest and fault-finding boundaries. Technicians must preserve failed evidence and cannot adjust limits or rerun selectively to create a pass. Testing may apply hazardous voltage, pressure, temperature or mechanical force, so the rig-specific safe state and emergency isolation should be understood before connection. The technician needs the correct product configuration and software version as well as a valid procedure. Employers should define controlled use of engineering modes, golden units, temporary leads and diagnostic logs. If a failure cannot be reproduced, the original data and conditions remain valuable and should not be replaced by a simple pass result without authorised disposition. Where results feed customer certificates or regulatory evidence, report templates and electronic transfers should be checked so units, limits and serial identity remain unchanged.
