Day-to-day operating brief
What Holiday Cover Courier work looks like in practice
A Holiday Cover Courier substitutes on routes while permanent drivers are absent. Terms should clarify the temporary assignment, guaranteed hours, route familiarisation, vehicle allocation, keys, scanners, customer instructions and escalation when local knowledge is incomplete. Cover status must not justify sharing logins, relying on undocumented safe places or assigning a route without enough time to inspect the vehicle and understand material hazards. A useful cover handover records recurring collections, access restrictions, known animals, parking limits and time-critical customers without copying unnecessary personal notes. Any temporary change learned during the assignment should be dated and submitted for validation, not silently written over the permanent driver's route record. Pay and availability terms should distinguish accepted cover shifts from periods when the worker is merely contactable. Changes to planned finish time require the ordinary approval and welfare arrangements.
Individually written and reviewed against the maintained role record.
