Day-to-day operating brief
What Postal Delivery Worker (Postie) work looks like in practice
A Postal Delivery Worker sorts and delivers letters and parcels on an assigned walk or vehicle round and may collect mail from boxes or customers. Terms should cover route preparation, tracked items, keys, access codes, delivery points, dogs, weather, loads, redirections and undeliverable mail. The worker should not sign for recipients, leave tracked items outside authorised rules or place themselves at risk to reach an unsafe address. Round preparation should separate redirected, retained and tracked mail before the delivery bag is closed. If a letterbox presents a sharp, trapping or animal risk, the worker should record the delivery-point hazard and use the authorised alternative rather than forcing an item through or leaving it exposed. Collection-box clearance should record box identity, scheduled time, seal or pouch transfer and any obstruction. Missed clearances require immediate operational escalation rather than inclusion with the following day's mail.
Individually written and reviewed against the maintained role record.
