Day-to-day operating brief
What Facilities Manager work looks like in practice
A Facilities Manager keeps offices and shared workplaces safe, secure and operational through maintenance, contractors, utilities, access, cleaning and space planning. The role may manage landlords, budgets, emergency arrangements and multiple sites without owning statutory duties assigned elsewhere. Terms should define locations, travel, on-call expectations, procurement, permits, keys, contractor supervision, compliance records and authority during incidents. Contractor completion should include permits closed, isolations restored, waste removed and affected users informed. Asset histories need emergency repairs distinguished from planned replacement. Repeated leaks, alarms or access faults should trigger root-cause review instead of remaining a sequence of unrelated helpdesk tickets. Space changes should assess fire routes, accessibility, power, ventilation and confidential conversation needs before furniture moves. Occupancy density alone does not show whether a reconfigured office remains practical for its actual professional work.
Individually written and reviewed against the maintained role record.
