Day-to-day operating brief
What Sports Massage Therapist (Deep tissue) work looks like in practice
A Sports Massage Therapist uses authorised soft-tissue and deep-pressure techniques for clients seeking support around training, activity or muscular comfort. The role requires functional questioning, informed consent, ongoing pressure checks and accurate records without diagnosing injuries or presenting massage as physiotherapy. Terms should identify techniques, client groups, event or clinic work, draping, equipment, notes, communication with coaches or clinicians, packages and commission. Progress notes should connect pressure and technique to the client's functional goal and response after previous sessions. Sporting ambition or an upcoming event does not remove the need to defer when presentation falls outside massage competence. Event-day services should clarify whether the therapist provides brief preparation, recovery massage or a booked full session. Treatment area, hygiene and records still need workable arrangements outside the usual clinic room. Communication with another practitioner should identify the client's permission and factual observations, avoiding diagnostic labels the massage therapist is not qualified to assign.
